Universities

There are nine universities in Thuringia:
- Bauhaus University of Weimar
- Friedrich-Schiller University Jena
- University of Erfurt
- Ilmenau University of Technology
- The LISZT School of Music Weimar
- University of Applied Sciences Erfurt
- University of Applied Sciences Jena
- University of Applied Sciences Nordhausen
- University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden
Thuringia also boasts universities of cooperative education with campuses in Eisenach and Gera.
In addition there are the University of Applied Science for Public Administration in Gotha and 3 private universities of applied sciences: the Adam-Ries University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt (with courses in tax, business, sustainable energy, tourism), the SRH University of Applied Sciences for Health in Gera, and the University of Applied Sciences for Arts in Arnstadt.
About 53,700 students are enrolled in Thuringia’s universities in the 2011/2012 winter semester.
