Career and Family

Thüringen lebenswert

Thuringia is a special place for young families. For kids aged two+, the Free State maintains an outstanding full-coverage network of child care facilities, especially in comparison with other German states.

Thuringia currently has almost 1,400 day care centers with around 80,000 places for children. For every 100 preschool-age children, there are 110 available places in preschool centers. No other German state even comes close to Thuringia in this regard. Plus, almost 100 percent of the preschool places are for the entire day.

In Thuringia, it is easy to balance your family life with your career. With 27 day nursery places for every 100 children under two years of age, the Free State offers roughly three times as many places as the national average. Additional child care is provided by daymothers.

Children continue to receive excellent care after they leave preschool centers: Every child attending elementary school in Thuringia has the right to enroll at an after-school care center.

In the Free State, comprehensive care and support is not restricted to the youngest children. Its educational system enables kids to realize their dreams, whatever they may be. In a country where most high schools require 13 years of schooling, they graduate in 12 – without compromising on academic rigor, as achievement tests have shown. The Free State also boasts one of the lowest average graduation times in the country.
