Hospitality
Thuringia is known for its hospitality. The culinary specialties of the Free State are popular even beyond its borders: Thuringia dumplings and bratwurst are its best-known accomplishments. But any such list should also include crisp, fresh fruit and vegetables, local beers and aromatic liquor. Connoisseurs treasure wine from Germany’s northernmost wine-growing region, Saale-Unstrut, where vintners have been harvesting grapes every year for over a millennium.
Traditional Thuringia cuisine is everywhere: from white-tablecloth restaurants to rustic taverns. Visitors to the many local festivities will experience the heartwarming hospitality of the region. Each season has its own festivals. There’s the springtime Sommergewinn and the summer-solstice gala. Autumn ushers in Kirchweihe parish fairs and first-day-of-school celebrations. The entire year is peppered with flower pageants, knightly festivals and shooting competitions. Marriage, horse and pottery markets offer everywhere fun and food for everyone.
A wide selection of hotels satisfies even the most demanding guest. Depending on their druthers, visitors can relax in a cosy bed-and-breakfast, small inns or one- to five-star hotels and enjoy their time in Thuringia.
Thuringia has all kinds of conference facilities. Germany’s oldest cultural and conference center - the Kaisersaal in Erfurt - combines modern amenities with a historic setting. It is a popular venue for key business and scientific conferences and meetings. With outstanding access to local infrastructure, the Conference Center at Messe Erfurt has enough capacity for 6,000 people and is equipped with state-of-the-art media equipment. There are plenty of conference facilities not only in most of Thuringia’s cities, but also in its rural regions.
