Top Level Communication Infrastructure

Thuringia has one of the most modern information and communications infrastructures in Europe, with a fully digitalized landline network. 

DSL broadband internet service was introduced in Thuringia in 2000. Downstream bit rate is up to 32.000 kbit/sec, upstream bit rate can be as high as 3,500 kbit/sec. Broadband internet availability is more than 95%. 

The services of all large internet providers active in Germany (T-Home, 1&1, Alice, Arcor, Freenet, Vodafone, Congstar, Vodafone, o2, Kabel Deutschland etc.) are also available in Thuringia. In addition, around 30 regional providers offer their services to the customers. Sky DSL, broadband internet connection via satellite, is available all over the country. In some urban areas broadband internet via cable-TV and other connections is also possible.
