Transportation Network
Highways
Thuringia is a central traffic hub in Germany and Europe: the A4 East-West route (Paris – Frankfurt – Dresden – Prague) and the A9 North-South route (Munich-Berlin) both intersect in Thuringia.
The A 71 / A 73 gives the region access to Southern Germany (Munich, Stuttgart). The newly built A 38 connects the North of Thuringia to the Rhine and Ruhr urban centers and to the Halle/ Leipzig area.

Railroad System
Two main lines run through Thuringia: the high-speed route Paris – Frankfurt – Dresden -Prague and the high-speed route Berlin - Munich. A traveller leaving Erfurt, the state capital, can reach Frankfurt Airport and Berlin in two and a half hours. From 2017 onwards, the high-speed line between Munich, Erfurt and Berlin will almost halve travel times to these destinations.
Air Transportation
The Erfurt-Weimar International Airport offers state-of-the-art freight handling equipment as well as ample freight and forwarding halls. TNT Express Deutschland GmbH operates a road-air hub including customs clearance. Charter flights depart from Erfurt for destinations in Europe and North Africa.
The Erfurt-Weimar International Airport Europe’s second largest airport - Frankfurt - is two and a half hours from Erfurt by train or car. The Halle/Leipzig International Airport is an hour’s drive from Thuringia.
The main regional airfields are Eisenach-Kindel and Leipzig-Altenburg Airport.
