BMW invests ~ 18 mio to expand Thuringian facility
Until mid 2015, BMW is investing about € 18 mio in its tool making facility in Eisenach/Thuringia. This means doubling production space and installing a new press that will outdo the existing ones. While the staff count remains constant, more trainees will be employed, says Michael Eckl, General Manager of BMW Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH.
After millions of euros that have been invested in the facility during the last 3 years, the next expansion stage starts in September 2013. Even now, there is no BMW car that does not contain a part which has been processed with tools from Thuringia. Especially parts like engine hoods, roofs, doors and car wings are pressed with the up to 50 tons weighing tools. In addition, BMW in Thuringia will manufacture the tools for the carbon cabin of the future BMW i3, which will be the first electric BMW from series production.back
