Daimler Engine Plant in Thuringia Keeps on Growing Considerably
The next generation of 4-cylinder engines for Mercedes Benz cars will be built at MDC Power GmbH in Kölleda, a small town in Thuringia. The daughter company of Daimler AG will be expanded by 2 production halls each 4.2 ha. The invest volume will amount to Euro 200 mio.
"We are very happy about this expansion", says Dr. Sven Breitschwerdt, General Manager of MDC Power in Kölleda, "focusing on the essentials such as prime quality and the perceptible motivation of the workforce are the right arguments to further develop the factory."
In 2003, MDC Power started the production of 3- and 4-cylinder engines for Mercedes Benz and Smart in Thuringia. Since then, a 3-digit million amount of Euro has been invested in this production site and meanwhile more than 1,400 employees are working at MDC Power and the surrounding service companies.
In 2012, MDC Power has been awarded the German prize "Factory of the Year" which was initiated by A.T. Kearney and others in 1992. This award is given for an extraordinary performance with regard to quality, cost effectiveness and customer satisfaction.
