New Institute of Data Science in Jena
08-31-2017 - Recently, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) has celebrated the opening of a new research institute in the city of Jena.
The scientific focus of the Center of Data Science will lie on data management, analysis and processing of large and heterogeneous data, dealing with the upcoming challenges of digitalization. To begin with, four departments are planned to be established: Big Data, IT Security, Citizen Science and Smart Systems (Industrie 4.0).
With this center the established research areas of the DLR will be complemented and it will enlarge core competencies. In close cooperation with regional research and industry partners, the new center will contribute to further strengthening the even distinguished Thuringian research landscape.
With an annual amount of 7.8 mio Euros the institute is funded by the German Federal and State Government.
