The "Factory of the Year" is in Thuringia
Daimler subsidiary MDC Power received the award during an industry congress in Leipzig
The Thuringian engine plant of Daimler AG, MDC Power GmbH in Kölleda, won the prize "Factory of the Year 2012". This is an annual benchmarking event known as the toughest benchmarking test for manufacturing companies throughout Europe. It was initiated in 1992 by A.T. Kearney and the weekly business magazine "Produktion" in Germany.
"We could convince the jury by focussing on the essentials", said MDC General Manager Dr Sven Breitschwerdt. The jury members noticed the extremely high quality consciousness of the staff and that they have fun with it.
Ten years ago the company was founded and since then has expanded several times. It produces about 1 mio engines per year and together with its suppliers about 1,400 people are working at the site. The engines are delivered to factories in 20 countries and among the Daimler group the Thuringian plant is the most productive and state-of-the-art production site.
The congress "Factory of the Year" has become in 20 years an important meeting place for German managers in order to learn from the best.
