Object

1. The Landesbank shall have full freedom of business. You can operate all kinds of banking and financial services business as well as all other businesses that serve the Landesbank. 2. The Landesbank shall strengthen competition in the banking industry. It provides its services to the population, the economy and the public sector, taking into account market requirements. With regard to its public mandate, the Landesbank also endeavours to support social, ecological, cultural and other charitable projects within the scope of its possibilities. 3. The Landesbank is a universal bank and an international commercial bank. 4. The Landesbank is also the central bank of the savings banks in Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and the Free State of Saxony; together with the affiliated companies of the savings banks, it promotes and supports the competitiveness of the savings banks in the market. 5. In the territory of the City of Stuttgart, the Landesbank also performs the functions of a savings bank in application mutatis mutandis of Paragraph 6(1) of the Law on savings banks. 6. The Landesbank is also the principal bank of the Land and the city. 7. In order to fulfil its tasks and carry out its business, the Landesbank may establish legally dependent institutions under public law, participate in undertakings and join associations as a member. It may also participate in the capital of credit institutions governed by public law and may be guarantor or sponsor of such institutions. 8. The Landesbank establishes a legally dependent institution governed by public law called 'Baden-Württembergische Bank' (BW Bank). BW Bank takes over the business areas of the private and corporate customer business of Landesbank and the former Baden-Württembergische Bank Aktiengesellschaft for Baden-Württemberg with a special focus on the SME business as an operationally independent unit within the Landesbank. In the territory of the Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart, it shall also perform the tasks of a savings bank assigned to the Landesbank under subparagraph 5 for the Landesbank. Within the scope of the tasks assigned to it, BW Bank acts as a commercial bank and can conduct all types of banking and financial services business. All declarations and legal transactions for BW Bank entitle and bind the Landesbank. The tasks and organisation of BW Bank are governed by the statutes of BW Bank, which are adopted by the Board of Trustees as articles of association pursuant to § 8 (2) no. 6 LBWG.
