Further information
- The FLI was founded in 1992 as the Institute for Molecular Biotechnology e.V. (IMB) was founded. In 2005 the institute was renamed to Leibniz Institute for Ageing Research - Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI), since Oct. 2015 the current name. - The Leibniz Institute for Ageing Research is the first research institute in Germany dedicated to the biomedical research of human aging - a highly complex process that is influenced by genetic and external factors. It is the mission of the FLI to decipher the mechanisms that lead to a deterioration of stem cell function and organ preservation in old age, thus promoting organ dysfunction and the development of diseases. The goal of our research is to create a knowledge base for the development of novel therapeutic approaches that can help to prolong the health span - the time in which people age in good health. This prolongation of the health span is not only of great importance for the individual, but also helps society as a whole to deal positively with demographic change.
