- The Thuringian Centre for Mechanical Engineering is the partner for industrial companies and research institutes in the area of modern mechanical engineering technologies. It supports the industrial companies with regard to issues concerning research and development and establishes contacts with cooperation partners at universities and institutes for the transfer of technologies and applied research in production.

- Founded in June 2013. - ThZM is a joint project of the Technical University of Ilmenau, the Gesellschaft für Fertigungstechnik und Entwicklung e.V. Schmalkalden, the Schmalkalden University, the Ernst-Abbe University of Jena and the Günter-Köhler-Instituts für Fügetechnik und Werkstoffprüfung GmbH Jena.
