  • Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Erik Findeisen Dean of the Faculty of Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, and Forestry | Spokesperson for the “Holz-21-regio” alliance

"The Holz-21-regio alliance brings together partners from business, science, administration and tourism. The aim is to develop a European model region for wood-based value chains in the Thuringian Forest based on innovations from Thuringia. Interdisciplinary research and development projects link economically strong sectors with the forestry and timber industry. This results in products, services and technologies that promote a climate-friendly economy and open up new opportunities for structural change in rural areas. The fields of innovation range from climate-resilient forest reorganisation to modern timber construction. All stages of the value chain are considered and made more efficient through new technologies. The alliance is supported by citizens of the Thuringian Forest and has already met with a great response both nationally and internationally."

    • Timber construction schools

With the new school buildings in Bendeleben and Ilfeld, Thuringia is focussing on sustainable educational construction using almost 100% timber. A specially developed construction system combines proven technologies to create a flexible modular system whose modules are optimised for the delivery and transport dimensions of timber construction elements. The constructions come from regional production and strengthen value creation within the Thuringian timber industry. The high degree of prefabrication and the resource-saving construction method significantly reduce CO₂ emissions.
